Sewickley's Dynamic Musical Duo
Hundreds of music lovers who do more than just hum a tune can thank Brent and Molly Stater for their chops. "Familiar Faces" caught up with the dynamic musical duo at their home.
Ask Molly and Brent Stater to sing a few bars and you get more than a few rounds of "Row Row Row Your Boat."
The husband and wife are professional vocalists who had big careers on opera stages before settling down in Sewickley.
Molly and Brent Stater met as vocalists at the St. Louis Opera and moved to Pittsburgh when Molly started work with the Pittsburgh Opera here.

Now the parents of seven children, the Staters have devoted their lives to teaching others to sing, strum and play.
Molly Stater is a vocal and acting coach who boasts several students who have their own operatic aspirations.

Brent Stater teaches piano, guitar and vocals, with students numbering in the thousands over the years.
Both teachers say it is rare to find a student interested in opera singing or classical guitar -- the vast majority of youngsters .
But every so often they'll find a student whose heart lies in the classics. Brent believes the voice is an instrument like any other, and can be trained no matter what.
During our visit to the Stater music studio, we were treated to a selection from "Phantom of the Opera."
