This Week at the Garden

See what's new this week at the Sewickley Food Pantry Garden!

Firstly, I would like to thank all the companies that have generously donated to the Free Farmers Market this month. A favorite of our clients has the been the bread, bagels, and rolls from Mediterra Food Company in Robsinson. Just yesterday, a food pantry client expressed how much her and her family look forward to the fresh bread every Wednesday. Coraopolis Cash Market donated fresh fruits and vegetables.  Rosalinda Sauro Sirianni Memorial Garden, a project of North Hills Community Outreach, frequently donates their extra harvest to our Free Farmers Market. Thank you so much for your support and dedication to feeding the hungry in Pittsburgh.

A special thanks to Robinsons Home & Garden / The Basket Loft! They have been gernerously donating to the Sewickley Food Pantry Garden since it began in 2008. The seeds that become our beautiful produce come from Robinsons and we could not have such a successful community garden without them.

At this week's Free Farmers Market we distributed bread, carrots, pears, tomatoes, herbs, galic, peppers, green beans, and squash. We will have some pumpkins in the next few weeks too!

The group workday has been switched from Saturday to Sunday for the rest of this growing season. Through mid-October we will be meeting at the garden every Sunday 10:00am-1:30pm. New volunteers or anyone that just wants to come see the garden in full bloom are always welcome.

September is Hunger Action Month and we are organizing a hunger advocacy campaign called Project Paper Plate. We are asking everyone in the community to participate by posting a photo of themselves holding a paper plate with a fact or message about hunger to our facebook wall. Pictures with family, friends, pets, and babies are strongly encouraged! Examples on on our facebook page in the "Project Paper Plate" album. https://www.facebook.com/SewickleyFoodPantryGarden/photos We hope that we can get a lot of participation of this project!
