12 Days of Christmas Gifts: Larry's Laundromutt

Larry's Laundromutt in Edgeworth offers unique items for four-legged family members and those who love them.

Small businesses carry a variety of unique and creative gifts for holiday shoppers. For the next 12 days, Patch is highlighting some of the local businesses and gift ideas available in and around Sewickley. Today is the third day of Christmas.

Located in the Edgeworth Plaza, Larry's Laundromutt at 201 Ohio River Boulevard has plenty of unique gift ideas for your four-legged family members.

Named for owner Jeanie Barrett's dog, Larry's has everything from dog toys and natural treats to the ever-popular spa baths and pet grooming.

The store recently celebrated its five-year anniversary on Nov. 16. Since opening, the shop has added products and services, including a mobile van that travels about 10 miles outside the area for the comfort and convenience of pet owners.

The idea for a dog wash came to Barrett following an experience of trying to wash her dogs, Sam and Larry, at home in the shower. After getting dog fur from floor to ceiling, she thought it would be great if pet owners had a convenient place to wash their dogs and keep the mess outside the home.

"Here, they leave the hair, they leave everything," Barrett said, adding that some customers still feel guilty about it.

The store has four groomers to offer full-service breed-specific grooming by appointment. Pet owners can have one of the six bathers do the washing for them, but are also welcome to wash their own dogs with no appointment necessary.

"A lot of times, people don't realize they can do it themselves," Barrett said.

For every bath, Larry's Laundromutt donates $1 to the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society. Last month, the store gave 502 baths, full-service and self-service washes combined.
