After releasing three lots of the drug into the market, tiny plastic particles, described as “approximately 1 mm in size or about the size of a poppy seed” were found in a different product lot during manufacture, according to a press release sent out by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The lot in which the particle were found was not released to consumers.

The company determined that the particles came from a shipment from a third-party supplier ofibuprofen, which is the active ingredient in the MOTRIN®, and recalled the three lots made with the same batch of active ingredient.
