is a quaint French bakery and bistro in Sewickley. While enjoying breakfast, which is served all day, or lunch, you’ll feel as if you’re eating in the French countryside instead of a café on Division Street. The food is good, the atmosphere is intimate, and the service is welcoming.
The eatery seats no more than 45 people, and the décor adds to the cozy feel. The inside is light with a color scheme of yellows and greens. The floors are bare, with just a space rug adorning the floor upon entry. The tables are covered in colorful tablecloths. The menu is written on a chalkboard above the two large display cases that flaunt the mouth-watering French cuisine.
The breakfast menu consists of omelets and croissants, all $7.48 and served with tomato salad. Popular entrees include L’Omelette du Jardin, a garden omelet with spinach, red pepper, mushroom, tomato and goat cheese; L’Omelette Crabe Avocado; and Le Pain Perdu, or French toast.
The café offers salads, sandwiches and entrees for lunch. Salads are $9.35, and sandwiches and entrees are $8.50 and served with one side dish. Popular items include Le Caprese, Le Complet, the classic French club sandwich, Le Poulet, the chicken salad sandwich, and the Pizza Margherita. The menu also offers escargot, quiche, crepes and delicious French onion soup. Try to save room for dessert, or take some of the eatery’s bread pudding or chocolate mousse home as a treat for later.
Café des Amis is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The eatery offers weekly specials and is available on week days after hours or Sundays for private parties and events.
