Bites Nearby: Patron Mexican Grill

This week Patch samples the fare and lively atmosphere of a Mexican eatery in Wexford.

embodies an authentic Mexican food experience, from the Mexican-themed artwork and decor to the traditional live music.

Located on Perry Highway in Wexford, the dim lighting, vibrant color scheme and hand-carved and painted booths set the scene for an all-around good time.

The environment is upbeat and fun, friendly and inviting. It can get loud, but that’s because the place usually is packed. The noise level isn’t bothersome; it just seems to add to the atmosphere.

Patron serves up quite possibly the best Mexican food in the area. The fresh, warm chips and homemade but not-too-spicy salsa will occupy you as you navigate the massive menu. Popular entrees include the chicken or shrimp chimichanga for $9.95 or $10.99, the taco salad fajita for $10.99, and the chipotle chicken for $9.99. The menu also offers a make-your-own combo, with two menu selections for $7.99, three menu selections for $9.99 or four menu selections for $12.95.

A good margarita is hard to find, but Patron offers some of the best. The margaritas are “de la receta de mi abuelo,” or “from the recipe of my grandfather,” and go down very easy. The house margarita is $5.95 and pitchers are available. Flavored margaritas are priced at $6.95 and include strawberry, mango, raspberry and watermelon.

Patron's seems to be always busy, so it might be a good idea to call ahead for reservations. The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and noon 10 p.m. on weekends.
