Grand Opening: Catch a Sneak Peek Inside Sewickley Sporting Goods

A ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. today with Mayor Brian Jeffe ushers in the official opening of the store.

Looking around the business district, resident Kevin Santelli saw a need for specialty sporting goods.

"I live in Sewickley. If there's nowhere to shop, I have to jump in my car and go...It didn't seem convenient."

But Santelli, a runner, also felt there was something lacking from what chain stores were offering.

That's how the idea for Sewickley Sporting Goods was born.

On Thursday, as the store owner put on the last finishing touches, several people tried to get inside, a testament of sorts to how eager customers have been to see the place open.

Located at 417 Beaver St. inside the former location, the retail store carries a variety of merchandise, from shoes and yoga gear to spirit wear and lacrosse, Little League and field hockey equipment.

Le Chameau Wellies, a popular choice for Duchess Kate of Wales and Pippa Middleton, are available at the store, along with K-Way jackets, a brand that is also stocked in stores like J.Crew and Neiman Marcus.

Spirit wear for ,  and , is available and is fully customizable. Pittsburgh sports team items are avai.able too, such as the Pirates "Zoltan Z" fan shirt by local screenprinters CommonWealth Press.

And if you can't find what you're looking for, Santelli said he has hired three knowledgeable staff members to help customers find what they need.

Mayor Brian Jeffe is scheduled to attend the store's official opening at 10 a.m. today when Santelli and his family will cut a ribbon as part of the grand opening celebration.
