Center for Young Musicians Opens Relocated Site, Kicks Off Season in Sewickley

Center for Young Musicians's season features new retail hours, community concerts and other events.

music school today announced the opening of its new location at 437 Beaver St. in Sewickley.

Families, friends and Sewickley neighbors are invited to stop by during CYM's opening season, which kicks off today with new retail hours, community concerts and other events.

“Our new Sewickley studios will enable CYM to share even more musical education opportunities with our students and their families at all stages of their musical journey,” Leah Givelber, CYM’s president, said in a news release.  “This bright, modern space will be a wonderful resource for the Sewickley community as a place to enjoy, appreciate and learn about music.”

The freshly renovated store front is located across the street from CYM’s original space in the heart of vibrant business district. The store offers music CDs and educational materials.  Retail store hours are 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The school building features a sunlit room for group classes, state-of-the-art classrooms for private instrument instruction, family lounges and a new performance space.

The spacious performance room will host three upcoming Community Concerts:

  • May 19 at 4 p.m. featuring violinist Rochelle Agnew and CYM students
  • June 2 at 1:30 p.m. featuring pianist Sonia Tripathi and CYM students
  • June 9 at 1:30 p.m. featuring pianist Sonia Tripathi and CYM students 

All concerts are free and open to the public.  Other Sewickley "Opening Season" happenings include special “pop-up” classes for children and their caregivers. Stop in the Sewickley space for dates and times. CYM also will hold its Spring Solo Recital Saturday, May 5, at Marshall Middle School. 

According to school officials, CYM has grown rapidly since it began providing comprehensive music instruction 18 years ago to young musicians in the Pittsburgh area. 

The school opened a Sewickley site in 2006, and has locations in Wexford and on the campus of the Winchester Thurston School in Pittsburgh’s Shadyside neighborhood. CYM offers musical instruction year-round for toddlers through adults, with courses designed for students at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels of their musical education.
