Esmark Hosts Grand Opening to Celebrate New Headquarters

After breaking ground on its $9 million global headquarters in October 2011, Esmark celebrated its completion on Wednesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

From elected officials to family and friends, a large crowd turned out for the grand opening to offer a welcome boost to the new center on Hazel Lane in Edgeworth.

James Bouchard, chairman, founder and CEO of Esmark, said a couple of years ago, a "huge decision" was made to move to the company headquarters to western Pennsylvania.

Esmark's predecessor company Swift & Co. was created 136 years ago and later changed their name to Esmark in the 1970s.

One thing remained constant. Bouchard said the Swift and Esmark headquarters had always been based in Chicago.

"This thing surpasses any dream I've ever had of bringing this headquarters to Pittsburgh," said Bouchard, who recalled commuting to Chicago four days a week, but can now walk to work.

"I'm proud, Esmark will be in Pittsburgh hopefully forever, at least until the day I die," he said.

The global headquarters are housed on the top floor, and the building houses other tenants, which will eventually include Heritage Valley Health System’s new medical mall, which is projected to open in late summer.

Mary Ann Eisenreich delivered a commendation from Gov. Tom Corbett's office and Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald brought a proclamation to congratulate Esmark.

"We love that they're here," Fitzgerald said. "We want to help them create more jobs here and keep our young people in western Pennsylvania."
