Gas Prices Falling, Just Not as Fast in Sewickley

Experts explain why prices in Ohio are up to 50 cents a gallon cheaper than Western Pennsylvania. See which Sewickley area stations are lowest.

If you live in Cleveland, there's a good chance you could fill up your tank for about $3 a gallon, and that's more than 40 cents a gallon cheaper than in the Sewickley area, according to the AAA.

Drivers in five states (Wyo., Utah, Colo., Okla. and Minn.) currently pay less than $3 per gallon at the pump, while only drivers in Hawaii pay more than $4 per gallon, the AAA said.

Jeff Lenard, spokesman for the National Association of Convenience Stores, told the Post Gazette that said prices vary for several reasons.

One is a different state gas tax rate, which favor Ohio at $46.4 cents a gallon, or 4.3 cents below Pennsylvania's 50.7 cents. Another reason, Lenard said, is because different pipelines and gasoline refineries and wholesalers supply Ohio.
