Get Ready for a Rockin' Barktoberfest

Larry's Laundromutt joins with the Western PA Humane Society for a festival of beer, food, dog washes, live music and prizes.

Get ready for the second annual Barktoberfest, a Benefit for the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society.

The event returns this Friday, Oct. 7, to on Route 65.

Jeannie Barrett, owner of Larry and his Laundromutt, said the idea for an October festival for canines and their owners was spurred from another pet-friendly event.

“It’s an outgrowth of our Wash & Wine event, which we have about every other
month with the Humane Society, but it’s Barktoberfest so we have to have beer
instead of wine,” Barrett said.

The event will take place in a huge tent in the parking lot at 201 Ohio River Boulevard, and will include -- for a $20 donation -- beer and food, courtesy of local Sewickley merchants, cider and a voucher redeemable for a free dog wash.

If you choose to, you can have your dog washed that evening by volunteers from the Humane Society. Or, you can redeem the voucher for a free self-wash at the Laundromutt on a later date.

The party tent will be rockin’ with the incomparable Jimmy Sapienza and the 5 Guys Named Moe. If you’ve never seen Jimmy Sapienza, don’t miss this opportunity. The band can play just about any style, but they dwell mostly on swing, R&B and pop and rock Standards. Sapienza is a great singer and engaging performer, who never disappoints.

A grand-prize drawing for a Carnival Caribbean Cruise will be held at 10 p.m.

“We had the beer and the band and I asked the Humane Society if we could get a grand prize," Barrett said. "Someone donated a cruise.”

You must be present to win the cruise. Raffle items will also be available including pet-themed baskets and a number of pet-related vendors.
