New Drive Thru Specialty Coffee Shop to Open on Route 65

BeanThru opens Dec. 5 with an array of offerings, from lattes, mochas and macchiatos to a house-blend coffee brewed specifically for customers.

Morning coffee is a ritual for some and BeanThru expects to cater to those connoisseurs of fine coffee when it opens on Monday, Dec. 5.

Joy Jenny and Joe Rostan have been working for quite some time to open their drive-thru-only cafe at 4221 Ohio River Blvd., or Route 65, the location formerly operated as Mocha Mountain.

Originally planning to open on the inbound side of Route 51 in Brentwood, BeanThru switched gears and opted to purchase the Mocha Mountain location in Bellevue when it was put up for sale earlier this year.

“Going with the already built turnkey operation offered us a shorter turnover time than what we were looking at in Brentwood,” said Rostan, 36, of Avalon. “Much of the preliminary work was already done for us, such as build outs, site renovations and customizations.”

According to PennDOT, about 13,000 northbound vehicles and 13,000 southbound vehicles travel daily in that area of Route 65.

Jenny, principal owner of BeanThru, said she was confident that the drive-thru-only cafe business model is one that would flourish in the area.

“We offer a coffee convenience, without the hassle of finding parking, feeding a meter, getting out in the snow or rain, unbuckling and buckling the kids from car seats, and other things that must be juggled in order to get a specialty coffee or espresso drink at your traditional cafes,” Jenny said.

Jenny, 28,  has spent countless hours working with the Duquesne University Small Business Development Center to strategize and execute BeanThru’s business plan.

“I would recommend to anyone interested in starting their own business to work with the SBDC to develop strategies to move forward with their goals. They offer valuable resources and expertise,” Jenny said.

BeanThru will offer a wide array of caffeinated beverages from a house-blend coffee brewed specifically for its customers, to all-time favorite espresso drinks such as lattes, café mochas and caramel macchiatos.

Along with beverages, pastries such as muffins, biscotti, cookies, waffles, bagels and oatmeal will also be available. BeanThru will be open seven days a week.

“We want those folks heading to the cold, late-season Steeler games on Sunday to have the chance to pull in and grab their favorite pre-pregame brew,” Jenny said.

Looking to the future, BeanThru has plans to open more locations in the Pittsburgh area.

“We still have plans to build and open other drive thrus in the region over the next few years,” said Rostan, who also works full time as a property manager in the North Hills. “When you pull up to our window, you will be greeted and served by very friendly and knowledgeable baristas.

"We’re looking forward to our customers making a stop at BeanThru a part of their daily routine and getting to know our regulars on a first-name basis,” he said. “We want to be the best part of your day.”
