Pittsburgh International Releases Travel Stats for 2011

Delta and USA 3000 saw increases in 2011 air traffic, while US Airways and United posted declines.

The number of travelers flying through Pittsburgh International Airport increased by 1.3 percent in 2011 from the previous year, according to passenger traffic data released by the Allegheny County Airport Authority. 

More than 8.2 million passengers flew into and out of the airport last year, compared with 8.1 million in 2010, marking the second consecutive year that air travel has increased at the airport. 

Seven airlines reported increases in passenger traffic at Pittsburgh International in 2011:

  • USA 3000: 54.8 percent increase in traffic, with 27,114 passengers. 
  • Air Canda: 17.3 percent increase, with 47,380 passengers. 
  • Myrtle Beach Direct: 13.3 percent increase in traffic, with 40,403 passengers. 
  • Continental: 12.4 percent increase, with 577,754 passengers. 
  • Southwest: 5.3 percent increase, with 1.5 million passengers.
  • Delta: 5.2 percent increase in traffic, with 1.4 million passengers. 

Airlines that reported a decrease in traffic for 2011: 

  • Skywest: 41.2 percent decrease in traffic, with 42,541 passengers. 
  • Frontier: 30.1 percent decrease in traffic, with 50,600 passengers.  
  • United: 11.8 percent decrease in traffic, with 734,030 passengers.
  • AirTran: 7.2 percent decrease in traffic, with 788,062 passengers.
  • U.S. Airways: 2.6 percent decrease in traffic, with 2 million passengers.
