Sewickley Valley Chamber of Commerce to Host Second Speaker Series

Social media can be a challenge for small businesses, but an upcoming event aims to help.

The Sewickley Valley Chamber of Commerce will present their second Speaker Series, "Social Media Implementation – 10 Steps for Defining, Launching, and Managing Your Social Strategy" on Thursday, Sept. 26 at the Penguin Bookshop.

Dave Nelsen, social media expert, will speak on social media, providing an overview of best practices and marketing in today's economy. He'll discuss ways to get started and share a 10-step planning process used by dozens of successful companies to create effective social media programs.

Attendees will also learn how to compare their web traffic to their competitors; find which search terms are driving traffic and how frequently those terms are being searched each month; and tune into and act on good and bad conversations in real-time.

In addition, participants will learn specific ideas for gaining insight into competitors, customers and candidates, and how to measure results.

Nelsen will also talk about the implications of mobile technology in a post-PC world, and he’ll share four favorite apps that he can’t live without.

The speaker series is the second to be held this year, with more planned in the future. In July, the chamber hosted motivational speaker Nancy Stampahar.

Nelsen is president of Dialog Consulting Group, a boutique consulting firm that has helped more than 50 organizations develop strategies to enhance the conversations with their most important customers using proven social networking, social media, and internet communication tools.

Nelsen has more than 25 years of telecommunications experience and has been at the leading edge of the social media revolution since founding TalkShoe in early 2005.

He’s been recognized as Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young, as CEO of the Year by the Tech Council, and as Speaker of the Year by Vistage. Nelsen is an Adventure Racer and triathlete who makes red wine in his spare time.

Registration begins at 8:45 a.m. with the presentation starting at 9 a.m. Tickets are available for purchase at the Penguin Bookshop or online at ShowClix.com.
