Sewickley Wine Walk Pours Into the Village Wednesday Evening

The festivities run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will begin at 419 Beaver St., also known as Wine Walk Central.

The wine will flow on Wednesday, Nov. 9, when the second annual returns to the borough's business district.

About 40 businesses will be participating in this evening event hosted by the Sewickley Valley Chamber of Commerce. Festivities run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and begin at the former Chico's space at 419 Beaver St., also known as Wine Walk Central. 

For a $5 donation, participants will be carded and given a wristband that entitles them to sample a different wine at 35 stops on the walk. Three businesses are participating at the but it counts as one stop. The walk will move visitors along Locust Place and Beaver, Broad and Walnut streets.

“It’s mandatory that everyone register at ‘Wine Walk Central,’ the old Chico’s space,” said Alexis Comunale of , on behalf of the Sewickley Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Prizes will be awarded to two of the participants. Everyone who registers will receive a card with the businesses listed on the back. At each stop, after participants have enjoyed their libations, they are to have their card initialed by the business representative.

Those who visit two-thirds of the businesses are eligible for the prize drawing -- that’s 23 stops -- which will occur at Wine Walk Central at the end of the event.

“It’s kind of an adult treasure hunt," Comunale said. "Each of the participating businesses is contributing a bottle of wine for the prize drawing. Two names will be drawn and the winners will each receive 18 bottles of wine.”

Comunale said turned out last year and made the event a success. 

“We had over 300 people visit the Nickelodeon last year. There will be a lot of nice, premium wines available; no Mogen David,” Comunale joked.

The event was started by the now defunct Business Development Advisory Committee and later taken over by the chamber.

“I told the chamber that we needed this event. It’s an adult event," Comunale said. "If there is any criticism of Light Up Night, it’s that there are too many kids. It’s really a nice event and it brings people from all over Pittsburgh to .

"Last year we had people from Greensburg. It’s the kind of event that we need to drive people from out of the area to visit the Village. Some people came and said that they had no idea that all these businesses were in Sewickley.”

All proceeds from the event will benefit the chamber and the upcoming Yuletide in Sewickley and promotions.
