Shop & Dine: Sewickley to Host First Night Market

Friday's market on Beaver Street is the first of a series of night shopping events.

Beaver Street in Sewickley will be closed Friday between Walnut and Broad streets to host Sewickley's first Night Market.

More than 25 local businesses are slated to participate so far, according to Alex DeLoia, Village Green Partners social media strategist.

DeLoia said the idea is to create a fun and festive outdoor experience for shopping and dining.

From 5 to 9 p.m., businesses will show merchandise from their shops on tables and under tents outside, offering customers an idea of what's available for purchase inside.

"In creating the Night Market, we're really hoping to bring awareness to all of the great businesses that we have in Sewickley," DeLoia said. "It's been especially rewarding to see everyone in the business district working together to bring this event to life."

Business owner Kathryn Richardson said the event will give people who can't make it during the week a chance to come out, shop in town and see all the stores and restaurants Sewickley has to offer.

"As a business owner, you depend not only on your local Sewickley neighbors, but also the greater Pittsburgh area for support," said Richardson, who owns the Rosewood Boutique in Sewickley and Mt. Lebanon.

Additional Night Market events are planned for Friday, July 12, and Friday, Aug. 9. Beaver Street will close to traffic at 4 p.m. from Walnut to Broad, and reopen at the end of the night.
