Soaring High: Sky Zone Indoor Trampoline Park Ready to Open in Leetsdale

A new indoor trampoline park in the Leetsdale Industrial Park is set to offer guests a high-flyin' experience starting on Wednesday.

When Sky Zone opens the doors to 740 Brickworks Drive, visitors will find a seemingly endless sea of wall-to-wall trampoline courts under high ceilings.

Joel Karg, general manager, said Sky Zone has five trampoline courts, including the main 5,000-square-foot court, two dodgeball courts, a Sky Slam court with two basketball rims and a three-lane foam pit. 

"It’s a wonderful place to kind of come in the door, leave your worries and cares at the door and get rid of the stresses of life for an hour or so," Karg said. 

Guests of all ages, shapes and sizes can bounce and leap with "open jump," opt for a friendly "3-D dodgeball" game, or try slam dunking a basketball. Sky Zone has 12,000 square feet of connected trampolines to jump on and soar.

And that's exactly what 8-year-old Vicente Anchondo and his younger brother Brett did together as the first on Monday to experience the venue. 

Lindsy Chufe, of New Brighton, said she nominated her son Vicente and won a Facebook contest, giving him a chance to experience the first jump. 

"They're having a blast. Words can't describe how they're doing," said Chufe, who was diagnosed in 2011 with pseudotumor cerebri, a neurological disorder.

Chufe said her kids don't often get to have such experiences due to her illness. While she wasn't able to personally try the trampolines, she wants to someday.

"I can't wait to be able to jump too," she said. 

Founded in 2004, Sky Zone has 37 locations throughout the United States and Canada. The concept for a Western Pennsylvania location came to Karg two years ago. He lived in Columbus, OH where the original Sky Zone franchise is located and joined a couple of partners in opening a facility in Buffalo.

Karg sold out his interest a year ago to start a venture in the Pittsburgh area with his partner and operations manager David Beckett. Construction began in early March and the partners are now thrilled to open in Leetsdale.

The facility also offers events, such as birthday parties and corporate team-building programs, and Karg said they are already getting requests.

Toddler time is also coming soon and in about a month, Sky Zone will begin offering SkyRobics, a fitness class that combines advanced calisthenics with a cardio and strength training progam. 

"Sky Zone is what we like to call 'active fun.' It’s a great entertainment venue, but its an active participation venue," he said.

Open Jump Hours: 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 3 to 9 p.m. on Friday;  10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. on Sunday. Closed on Monday.

Sky Mania Hours: (for middle-school ages 10 to 15): 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Fridays. Participants are treated to two slices of pizza and a drink.

Sky Jam Hours: (for ages 16 and older): 10 p.m. to midnight on Saturdays. Participants are treated to two slices of pizza and a drink.
