5 Things to Know This Week: Art Show, Comic Books, Wise Walks

Penguin Bookshop presents Richard "Pete" Peterson, author of the touching biography documenting the 21-year, Hall of Fame career of Pittsburgh Pirate Willie “Pops” Stargell. Peterson will be in store at noon Thursday, May 4. 

2. Montessori Children's Community Art Show

"Circle of Life," is a reflective collection of art inspired by students' studies of South America. Opening night is from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 1 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, May 2. The art show is free and open to the public. Call 412-741-8982 for more information. 

3. Wise Walks

Join the Sewickley Public Library as it begins the 10th season of Wise Walks. If you are an active adult 50 or over, this 10-week walking program can help get you started on an exercise program. Each week participants meet at 9:30 a.m. in the Colbert Room at the library and walk between 1 and 2 miles then return to the Library for a healthy snack. The program brought to you by the Allegheny County Library Association in collaboration with AARP and UPMC for Life.  No registration is needed

4. Free Comic Book Day

Big Bang Comics will be giving away free comic books on Saturday, May 4. In addition, there will be sales on pretty much everything in the store. 
Professional Comic Artist Pat Olliffe of Marvel, DC, Disney, and more, will be in the store from 1 to 4 p.m doing sketches and signing items for his fans. Get more here. 

5. Low Cost Vaccine Clinic

The Western Pennsylvania Humane Society is sponsoring a low-cost vaccination clinic for dogs and cats from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 5 at Larry’s Laundromutt in Edgeworth.
