5 Things to Know This Week

Patch gives you a rundown of what's going on around the community.

1. Tax Day

Federal tax returns must be postmarked by today, April 15 to qualify for timely filing. If you're filing last minute, click here to find post offices open later than 6 p.m. on Tax Day.

2. Route 65 Roadwork

PennDOT plans to begin daily improvements on Route 65 from Chestnut Street in Sewickley to the Beaver County line. Because some of this work is temperature sensitive, it cannot be performed at night. Short-term single lane closures will occur as needed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Monday, April 15 to Tuesday, April 30.

3. Volleyball Tournament

Quaker Valley National Honor Society is hosting a "Teacher Volleyball Tournament" on Wednesday, April 17.  The first game starts at 6 p.m. in the Quaker Valley High School gym. Admission is $1.

4. Build Your Own Secret Fairy House

Tracy Kane, author of "Fairy Houses" is the special guest on Saturday, April 20 at the "Building Secret Fairy Houses" event at  Mary Roberts Rinehart Nature Park. The free event, sponsored by Edgeworth Garden Club, includes presentations and demonstrations at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. in Osborne Elementary. Bring a bag of Naturalized Materials to make your very own Fairy House.

5. The Great American Cleanup of PA

On Saturday, April 20 the state-wide road cleanup to keep Pennsylvania Beautiful will mark 35 years. People of all ages are encouraged to get involved by picking up paper, cans, tires and bottles off the streets. Leetsdale will host its clean up from 9 a.m. to noon. Gloves and bags will be provided. Meet at the borough building.
