5 Things to Know This Week: Sign Language, Shrines and Anything Goes

Patch gives you a rundown of what's going on around the community.

1. Trout Stocking

Bring the kids and a 5-gallon bucket. Trout stocking begins at 4 p.m. Monday, April 8 at Little Sewickley Creek. Meet at Shelter 3 at Walker Park. This is sponsored by the Sewickley Shooting & Fishing Club.

2. Parent Discussion

The public is invited to attend "Before They Know it All: Talking to Tweens and Teens about Sexuality" on Tuesday, April 9 at the Sewickley Valley YMCA. The parent discussion, led by author Alan Carson, runs 10:30 a.m. to noon in the YMCA's community activity center. Youth Connect is hosting the event.

3. Anything Goes

Quaker Valley High School will perform the musical Anything Goes from Thursday, April 11 to Saturday, April 13. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens. Tickets will be sold in the high school gym lobby from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 9 to Thursday, April 11 or download the ticket order form online. Orders will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. If available, tickets will be sold at the door beginning at 6 p.m. prior to the show. All seats are reserved.

4. Sign Language for Families

The Sewickley Public Library is hosting Sign Language for Families with Karen Hathaway, American Sign Language interpreter, from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 11. Hathaway has taught ASL to children and caregivers in libraries across the county. She will be bringing her fun and informative class to Sewickley for four Thursdays in April! Come to one or all sessions! Register here for the free family program.

5. Small Shrines

Sweetwater Center for the Arts is hosting a juried exhibit through April 27 that features two-dimensional and three-dimensional works made in honor, dedication or celebration of an individual, a group of people, a place, a thing or an idea.
