5 Things to Know This Week: Memorial Day, Leetsdale Circus, Walnut Street Closing

Patch gives you a rundown of what's going on around the community.

1. Memorial Day

Sewickley's 122nd annual Memorial Day Parade begins at 10:30 a.m. The parade will be followed by a program at Wolcott Park, then a service at the Sewickley Cemetery. Local schools remain closed today in observance of Memorial Day. Find out what other facilities are open or closed today.

2. Walnut Street to Close

Walnut Streetwill close Tuesday, May 28 to Friday, May 31 while Columbia Gas performs work in the area. The closing will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. between Frederick Avenue and Route 65. The street will be open as usual otherwise. Signs are posted advising motorists of the closure.

3. 'Coffee with Keith'

U.S. Rep. Keith Rothfus, R-Sewickley, invites constituents to meet up with him this week for coffee and conversation in Warrendale. The  “Coffee with Keith” event will take place from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 28 at Generoasta Coffee, 901 Warrendale Village Drive.

4. Lewis and Clark Circus

Lewis and Clark Circus is returning to Henle Park in Leetsdale on Wednesday, May 29. Show times are 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Advance tickets can be purchased at Leetsdale borough building. Advanced prices are $10 for adults along with two free children's tickets. Circus day prices are $5 for children 14 and under, and $15 for adult tickets. 

5. St. James Anniversary Mass & Banquet

The 150th year Anniversary of St. James Parish and the 100th Anniversary of St. James Parish School will end in a Celebratory Mass at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 2 with Pittsburgh Catholic Bishop David Zubik presiding.

A banquet will follow from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at Allegheny Country Club. Historic video, music and fellowship will mark and evening of enjoyment for all. The banquet is $60 per person. Reservations can be made at the rectory or contact saintjamesparish@comcast.net
