UPDATE: About 650 Duquesne Light Customers Now Without Power

The numbers jump from 350 to 650. Crews are in the process of restoring power.

As of 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, about 650 Duquesne Light customers are still without power as a result of the strong winds and rain from Superstorm Sandy that swept through western Pennsylvania Monday.

Earlier Tuesday morning, the numbers dipped to 350 before jumping back up to 650 customers. 

Duquesne Light crews are in the process of restoring power by removing trees and repairing downed wires. Company spokesman Brian Knavish said the outages are scattered throughout Allegheny and Beaver counties.

Duquesne Light also warns that downed wires are a safety hazard and should be avoided because of the risk of electrical shock and injury. 

In addition, residents are advised to not drive over or go near downed wires.

Duquesne Light expects all customers to be restored by 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Approximately 350 Duquesne Light customers were without power as of 5:30 a.m. this morning following the arrival of Hurricane Sandy.

That's down to about half of the 650 customers who were without power Monday night as strong winds and rain from Hurricane Sandy continue to sweep through western Pennsylvania.

Duquesne Light spokesman Brian Knavish said the outages are scattered throughout Allegheny and Beaver counties.

In addition, residents are advised to not drive over or go near downed wires.

System restoration times are unknown at this time, as the damage to the electrical system is still being assessed.

In the Cranberry area, an outage map shows bout 60 customers are without power. There also are 24 customers in Pine Township reporting power loss. To report a power outage to Penn Power, click here.
