Books and Crafts at Annual Storywalk

Children heard stories, made crafts and shopped for books at Edgeworth Elementary.

Saturday was a day of storybooks and crafts at the annual spring "Storywalk" at School.

The school was open to the community to bring their children and grandchildren to hear stories, make crafts and shop for books at a book fair. The kindergarten teachers at the school sponsor the event, which is open to children ages 3-8.

Assistant Superintendent Heidi Ondek and second-grade teacher Marlene Ochman were in charge of the crafts and story, "Go to Bed, Monster."

Edgeworth Principal Susan Gentile read "Mouse Went Out to Get A Snack," and Sewickley Librarian Kathy Koltas read the book "To Market, To Market." Osborne Elementary administrative assistant Rita Kramer held children captive with a book titled "Three Little Fish and the Big Bad Shark."

Crafts included a bag with dog treats for the story "Dog Needs a Bone," which Edgeworth attendance clerk Suzi Daltorio read.

Visitors made the craft first for this story, which was a brown paper bag with a dog bone. Children wrote their names on a bag and were given pre-cut "vegetables" to put inside. Pupils also made a "bone" by cutting bread using a bone-shaped cookie cutter. Children interacted with the story, pulling out each item from the bag as it was mentioned.
