Controller Wagner Asks Homeowners to Contact Her Office if Reassessments Appear Incorrect

Wagner launched a comprehensive evaluation of the county's property reassessment process in January.

Allegheny County Controller Chelsa Wagner, who in January launched a comprehensive evaluation of the , is asking  who suspect incorrect assessments to contact her office.

Property owners whose new assessment numbers differ greatly from similar properties nearby or a recent sales price, or who otherwise believe their new values have been calculated incorrectly, can call Wagner’s Reassessment Hotline at 412-350-7618 or email controller@alleghenycounty.us.

The information property owners provide will be crucial in helping Wagner make sound recommendations for resolving and improving this process in the best interests of the , according to a news release.

“There have been great disparities in new reassessments between some comparable properties,” Wagner said. “My office’s experienced team of auditors, attorneys and financial professionals is working to determine why these disparities are occurring and whether the county and the reassessment contractor are meeting their obligations to the taxpayers.”

For information about appealing an assessment, property owners may call the Office of Property Assessments Public Information Line at 412-350-4600.

“Although there has been a one-year reprieve from using the new assessment numbers, we cannot lose a moment in ensuring that property owners understand and have confidence in this process,” Wagner said. “Our evaluation will provide suggestions to prevent mistakes from being repeated in the future.”
