Get Out: Amazing Race, Water Safety or Learn to Row

Patch has a few suggestions on how to spend your weekend.

It's Friday and you've got no plans for the weekend. 

Don't worry—Patch is coming to the rescue. Here are a few suggestions to get you out and about in this week's Get Out.

When/Where: 6 p.m. Friday, June 1 at the

Why Go: Learn what to do in a pool emergency during this hands-on program. Participants will learn water safety and what to do in an emergency. At the conclusion of the session, you are invited to stay for family fun time in the large pool, including the Y's 20-foot Inflatable with Dual Slides!

Admission: Free. Register by calling 412-741-9622 ext. 121. 

 

When/Where: All day Friday, June 1 at 562 Camp Horne Road, Ohio Township. 

Why Go: The dreaded "kitten season," when cats give birth and shelters are overwhelmed with new animals. During this all-day event, more mature felines will be available for a donation-free adoption and $10 cat neutering for males will be provided on a limited basis. 

Admission: Free. 

 

When/Where: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 2 at 4551 Royal Ave., Robinson Township

Why Go: The Pittsburgh Rowing Club will show participants ages 13 and older the rowing ropes. The event provides starters with a safe and fun environment to learn rowing basics.

Admission: Free. 

 

When/Where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 1 at Moon Park.

Why Go: Watch a free movie outdoors at Moon Park alongside fellow residents. 

Admission: Free. 

 

When/Where: 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 2 at , Sewickley Heights.

Why Go: Bring a team (or a car load) and around the Sewickley Valley, while visiting eight local parks. Teams will follow a clue to the first park. Once there they must complete a challenge (physical or mental) to earn the next clue. The race ends at the nature center for an awards ceremony and ice cream. 

Admission: $25 for members/$35 for non-members. Register your team at 412-741-6136 or email info@fhnc.org. 

When/Where: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Saturday, noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at Point State Park.

Why Go: The 53rd Annual Dollar Three Rivers Arts Festival will feature activities for the whole family such as musical acts, artists markets, a creativity zone and more!
