Get Out: Cooking, Music or Valentine's Fun

Beat the winter blues with these fun and family-friendly weekend activities happening in the area.

It’s Friday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend. Sewickley Patch is here to help. Check out our ideas to explore, and tell us about yours.

When/Where: 7 tonight at , 200 Broad St.

Why Go: This is the eighth consecutive year for Sweetwater's popular jazz series. On each Friday in February, a variety of jazz musicians will grace audiences with smooth, sweet sounds in an intimate nightclub setting. Wine and hors d'oeurves are complimentary with ticket purchase. This week's performance will feature Jessica Lee, whose style is a fusion of jazz, blues and rhythm and blues.

When/Where: 7:30-9:45 tonight at the the RMU Island Sports Center in the Golf Bubble, 7600 Grand Ave., Moon.

Why Go: This is a fun event for the whole family and supports an organization that donates soccer balls to children in underprivileged countries. Quaker Valley sophomore, organized the soccer tournament and soccer ball collection as part of her school project. Pre-register your team of 3-5 people and come in a creative costume. There will be music, food and a few surprises. Don't forget to bring a new or gently used soccer ball to donate to the Kick for Nick organization.

When/Where: 9-11 a.m. Saturday at , 315 Beaver Ave., Sewickley

Why Go: Sewickley Academy will play host to a family event for children in kindergarten through third grade and their families, during which they will dance, make crafts and play games. Cookies and hot cocoa will be provided.

When/Where: 1 p.m. Saturday at , 500 Thorn St., Sewickley.

Why Go: Trying to get healthy in the new year? Rebecca Lewis will teach a class about healthy cooking and will demonstrate a variety of fresh and delicious recipes. Samples of each recipe will be provided.

Cost: Free. Call the library at 412-741-6920 to register.

 

5.

When/Where: 5 p.m. Saturday at the , 511 East Drive, Sewickley.

Why Go: The  will play host to an evening of fun for families to benefit its child services. Come for a night of delicious kid-friendly food, music, a balloon artist and and an auction.

Cost: $90 per adult, $175 for family ticket (limit two adults), Children younger than 12 are free. Call 412-741-4087 for tickets.
