Holy Week Services Planned in the Sewickley Valley

If you're looking for worship services, there are lots happening in the Sewickley area.

Patch brings you a list of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday services planned in the Sewickley area.

Maundy Thursday, March 28

St. Matthews AME Zion Church, 345 Thorn St., will have feet washing at 6:30 p.m.

Christ Church at Grove Farm, 249 Duff Road, will have Mourning; at 6 p.m. is the Lamb Stew Dinner and services begin at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. Childcare available at all services through age 5. For more information call the church office at 412-741-4900 or visit www.ccgf.org

Sewickley United Methodist Church, 337 Broad St., services begin at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary.

, 414 Grant St., services take place at noon in the chapel and at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary.

St. James Catholic Church, 200 Walnut St. will hold The Lord’s Supper at 7 p.m.

St. Mary's Church at 444 Glenfield Road, Aleppo, at 7 p.m. will have a celebration of the Lord's Last Supper (washing of feet). 

 405 Frederick Ave., will have traditional dinner of Lamb Stew at 6:30 p.m. in Grace Commons and Holy Communion following dinner around 7:15 p.m. Childcare available to age 5.


Good Friday, March 29

St. Matthews AME Zion Church services begin at 6:30 p.m. at the church. "Seven Last Utterances of Jesus."

Christ Church at Grove Farm, services from noon to 3 p.m. will have "Seven Last Words of Christ" in the sanctuary.

Sewickley United Methodist Church, will gather at noon at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 616 Washington St., Sewickley. The procession with the cross will begin at noon to SUMC for the remainder of the service. If you do not want to participate in the carry of the cross, you may come to Sewickley’s sanctuary at noon for prayer and meditation.

The Presbyterian Church, Sewickley, will have a family service at 10 a.m. followed by an egg dyeing party at 10:30 a.m. A Tenebrae service begins at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary.

St. James Catholic Church will have Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion at 1 p.m. in the sanctuary.

St. Stephens Church plans services from noon to 3 p.m., during the hours Jesus suffered on the cross. featuring a sermon, a special set of prayers, congregational hymnody, selections of scripture, and a choral presentation of John Rutter’s “Requiem.”

St. Mary's Church litugical service begins at 1:30 p.m., and veneration of the cross until 7 p.m.

North Way Sewickley Valley, 1414 Beaver Road, services begin at 7 p.m. in Osborne Elementary School.

 

Holy Saturday, March 30

Christ Church at Grove Farm, services at 6 p.m. in Wilson Hall, "Things Will Never Be the Same" – Mark 16

St. James Church will host the Blessing of the Baskets and Food Holy Saturday at noon in the Gathering Space. Easter Vigil begins at 8:30 p.m.

St. Mary's Church will have Blessing of the Easter Baskets at 10 a.m. and an Easter Egg Hunt at 11 a.m. An Easter Vigil begins at 8:30 p.m. The celebration starts outside with the blessing of the Easter fire and lighting of the Paschal candle. Arrive early.

St. Stephen's will have services at 6 p.m. Saturday in Grace Commons. The service is a casual and contemporary worship. 

 

Easter Sunday, March 31

Christ Church at Grove Farm will have services "Things Will Never Be the Same" at 9 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. in the sancturary and Wilson Hall.

Sewickley United Methodist Church will begin Ecumenical Sunrise Service at 6:30 a.m. at the chapel in the Sewickley Cemetery. Contemporary service is at 9 a.m.; 5th Sunday Fellowship at 10 a.m  and Fellowship of the Cross at 11 a.m. in the Simpson Room; traditional service is at 11 a.m.

The Presbyterian Church, Sewickley, celebrates with a Easter Sunrise Service at 6:30 a.m. on the front lawn, followed by an 8 a.m. service in the chapel, and 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship services in the sanctuary. Rev. Kevin Long will be preaching. An Easter breakfast will be held at 10 a.m.

St. James Catholic Church will celebrate Sunday’s Easter Masses at 7:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

St. Matthews AME Zion Church will have Resurrection Sunday services beginning at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary.

St. Stephens Church will have traditional Easter services at 7:45 a.m., 9 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Sunday in the sanctuary and a casual and contemporary service  at 11:15 a.m. Sunday in Grace Commons.

St. Mary's will have Easter Sunday services at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

North Way Sewickley Valley, 1414 Beaver Road, services begin at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. in Osborne Elementary School. Kidz Church will be available at both services for children in fifth grade and younger.
