Leetsdale Plans Low-Key Fourth of July Festivities

Community waiting for someone to come forward to organize the annual event.

Leetsdale’s 69th annual Fourth of July celebration this year is shaping up a little differently from years past.

Leetsdale Council President Joseph McGurk said no one has stepped up to organize the annual Independence Day event, which requires planning months in advance.

So this year will be unlike previous celebrations.

Council voted Thursday to spend $10,000 to continue the fireworks tradition with a Zambelli Fireworks display after dark on July 4.

McGurk said the person who shoots them off is from the borough and available on the actual holiday.

Plans are also to continue the parade. McGurk said his hope is that the will parade its trucks through the streets.

“I know the fire department in the past has organized fire services to parade through Leetsdale and throw a thousand pounds of candy,” McGurk said. 

In years past, the festivities have included a parade, all-day entertainment, including games and food, in Henle Park.

Last year, organizers  how the Independence Day celebration would turn out compared with years past, but the borough ended up having a and a variety of bands, food booths and vendors in Henle Park.
