Leetsdale Police Blotter: Burglaries, Thefts and Vandalism

A couple is charged with burglarizing two Beaver Street homes and stealing more than $4,000 in cash and jewelry, .

Leetsdale police charged Andrew Scott, 29, and his wife Kaitlin Moore, 27, both of Chestnut Street, with burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, receiving stolen property and theft.  

On July 6, police were called to respond to the 200 block of Beaver Street in for a report of a burglary that occurred a day earlier.

Police said someone pushed the back window open and cut weather-resistant plastic to get inside the house. Several items were thrown from the kitchen counter and the window blind was ripped from its holder.

Upstairs, police found several dressers drawers had been rifled through. Police said cash and coins totaling $2,500 were taken along with several pieces of jewelry worth $1,500.

Police said witnesses saw Scott sitting in front of the home waiting in a car. Police said Moore walked down the steps carrying a large bag and got into Scott’s vehicle, which then left the area.

Police said the couple also burglarized a second residence on the same day in the 300 block of Beaver Street, where a woman saw Scott knocking on her neighbor’s door. She asked Scott what he wanted and police said Scott told her he was there to fix the toilet.

The neighbor let Scott upstairs to the apartment and Moore accompanied him. Police said he was in the apartment about 10 to 15 minutes. When the resident returned home, she discovered a piggy bank containing $50 missing from her bedroom as well as $150 cash that was beside the bank. Police said the toilet wasn’t even broken.

Grocery store theft

A Franklin Park man is facing charges of reckless driving, recklessly endangering another person and receiving stolen property after police said he shoplifted from .

Police said a store manager followed Lawrence Dax, 58, of Hopkins Church Road outside on July 10 after he saw Dax pushing a cart full of groceries out the store without paying. The manager asked Dax if he had a receipt for his groceries and Dax told him no, but agreed to follow the manager back in the store with the cart, police said. Dax then said he had to go get his wallet from his car even though the manager said that wouldn’t be necessary.

Police said Dax left the store anyway and the manager followed and watched him get inside his vehicle. The manager was writing down the license plate when police said Dax pulled his vehicle out aggressively and almost struck the manager. Police said other store employees said Dax has stolen from the store before.

Police cruiser egged

An officer was pulling into the police station garage July 10 when he noticed a fresh egg smashed on the rear bumper area of a police car.

Police said the vandalism occurred sometime between 10:15 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. The egg was washed off and no further damage was visible.
