Leetsdale Police: Man Sells off Thousands in Stolen Jewelry

Police used sales records at local pawn and gold exchange shops to track down an Imperial man.

Leetsdale Police said a 19-year-old man attempted to sell off thousands of dollars-worth of stolen jewelry at a borough gold exchange shop. 

Kenneth Harrell, of Imperial, faces a preliminary hearing Tuesday before Magisterial Judge Robert L. Ford on a charge of receiving stolen property.

Police in a complaint said Harrell attempted to sell off several pieces of stolen jewelry and silver coins at the gold exchange shops Atlantic Precious Metals in Leetsdale and Coraopolis Gold and Coin in Coraopolis.

Leetsdale Police were investigating a February theft of more than $20,000 in jewelry and $2,000-worth of silver coins from a borough home, when they tracked down the valuables at the local gold exchange shops. 

Harrell provided staff members with photo identification while making the transactions, according to court records. The exact amount of the sale was not immediately available.

Police filed charges against Harrell on March 13. He has not been charged in connection to the home break-in. 

Other hearings scheduled for Leetsdale District Court: 

  • Robert Park Supra, 26, of Sewickley, was charged with retail theft and drug possession on Feb. 20 at Rite Aid in Sewickley. A plainclothes police officer said he observed Supra placing two Airhead candies into his pocket. After stopping Supra and searching him, police found two empty stamp bags believed to have contained heroin. 
  • Leland Cameron Young, 22, residency unknown, was charged with criminal mischief, loitering and prowling at nighttime and criminal trespass. Leetsdale Police said Young broke into a Washington Street home one day after he was told to leave the premises. 
  • Brendon Damon, 19, of Conway, was charged with underage drinking, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, careless driving and being a minor with alcohol in system on Feb. 14 following a traffic stop at the 1200 block of Ohio River Boulevard in Sewickley.
