PennDOT Plans Route 65 Work as Bridge Project Progresses

Signs are posted on Route 65 announcing a road project that's scheduled to begin later this month in the area of the Sewickley Bridge. 

Jim Struzzi, PennDOT spokesman, said the improvement project will take place overnight July 30 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Planned work includes drainage, milling, paving and tree trimming.

Meanwhile,

Struzzi said the bridge project "is progressing well."

"Weather has been cooperative this season," he said.

Despite the extreme heat, Struzzi said the crews on the bridge have been working 10 to 12 hour shifts and continue to perform exceptionally.  

The contractor is in the process of removing the old deck using two crews to complete the work. Deck spans are already removed and steel repairs are taking place. Painting is also moving quickly with some of the prime coat completed.

"Some additional steel repairs were required, but that is expected on a structure rehabilitation project of this size," Struzzi said. 

The Ambridge-Aliquippa Bridge  to begin a $16.6 million repair project to the 10-span structure. The bridge is expected to reopen in mid-November, while the overall project will conclude in late 2013.
