Pittsburgh Native Rick Santorum Sweeps Colorado, Missouri and Minnesota

The former Pennsylvania senator captured 55 percent of the vote in Missouri's primary, far outdistancing Mitt Romney's 25 percent.

The Huffington Post reported that Tuesday was a bad night for Mitt Romney as Rick Santorum swept Missouri, Minnesota and Colorado in voting for the Republican nominee for president.

The former Pennsylvania senator won Missouri's primary and the Minnesota caucuses by large margins, capturing 55 percent of the vote in Missouri to Romney's 25 percent. Santorum won Minnesota with 45 percent of the vote. Romney claimed victory in Michigan's 2008 primary.

Santorum won all 114 of Missouri's counties.

, in St. Louis, reported that Santorum won more than half the Republican vote in Missouri.

“Conservatism is alive in Missouri and Minnesota,” Santorum told the crowd attending his victory party at the St. Charles Convention Center.

“I hope you have been listening to our message. Mitt Romney has the same positions as Barack Obama,” Santorum said in his victory speech.

Santorum said he wasn't claiming to be the conservative alternative to Romney, but was claiming to be the conservative alternative to Obama.

With 99.6 percent of the precincts reporting, the totals in Missouri were:

  • Rick Santorum         138,680 (55.2%)
  • Mitt Romney              63,709 (25.3%)
  • Ron Paul                    30,582 (12.2%)
