Quaker Valley Hires New Assistant Principal

Deborah Guidish will join Quaker Valley's district's administrative staff on Oct. 3.

Quaker Valley School Board has hired a new assistant principal at .

The school board Tuesday night approved the hiring of Deborah Guidish with a salary of $78,000 for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 school years.

Prior to appointing Guidish, the board accepted seven resignations, including that of Marisa Mandel as high school assistant principal, effective Aug. 31

Guidish has been a teacher for the Shaler Area School District during the past 15 years, according to district officials. 

Most recently, Guidish has been teaching communication arts, math and science to sixth-grade students. She has taught students at a variety of grade levels and has served as an instructional support teacher. Prior to teaching, Guidish worked as a graphic designer.

“Ms. Guidish has an excellent background in curriculum and professional development. Her training and experience in education is balanced with a proven record of relationship building with students, parents, staff and community members,“ said Superintendent Joseph H. Clapper.

Guidish earned her bachelor of science degree from La Roche, her teaching certification from Carlow University and principal's certification from the University of Pittsburgh.

Among her awards and honors is the Robert Wolff Gold Award for Teaching Excellence and La Roche College Distinguished Alumni Award.  

Guidish will join Quaker Valley’s district’s administrative staff on Oct. 3.

Guidish is the mother of two adult children and has recently moved to the Cranberry Township area.

The school board also hired three elementary teachers; 12 long-term substitutes; and nine special education paraprofessionals, seven for the 2011-12 school year only.
