Rain Causing Icy Roads in the Region

Take caution if you're heading out the door.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement calling for icy road conditions in Allegheny and surrounding counties Wednesday morning.

Rain moving through the area has created some icy conditions.

According to the NWS, several counties are reporting ice on roads due to surface temperatures being below freezing, despite the fact that air temperatures are in the upper 30s and lower 40s.

Pittsburgh Post Gazette traffic reporter Jon Schmitz said on Twitter that multiple crashes have been reported on Route 28 in Tarentum due to the icy roads. He also reported that more than 50 crashes have occurred in Butler County since 10 a.m.

Drivers should take caution.

Here's a look at the day's forecast: Freezing rain is expected to continue until 1 p.m., and then there's a slight chance of rain showers between 1 and 3 p.m. It'll be mostly cloudy with a high near 48. Tonight's low is 27.

How are the roads in your area? Any problems? Tell us in the comments!
