Severe Storms Leave Thousands Without Power

Harsh winds and heavy rains cause power outages and dangerous driving conditions.

A flash flood watch for the area has been canceled, hours after severe storms left thousands around the region without power and caused a deadly accident in Pittsburgh's Highland Park neighborhood.

A woman and two children died in a car that suddenly became submerged in water on Washington Boulevard during an afternoon thunderstorm. Several others who were driving in the area at the time got stuck in their cars, and emergency responders had to rescue them.

As of 5 p.m., nearly 8,400 Duquesne Light customers experienced disruptions in electric service. At 7 p.m., 4,150 residents were still without power. Crews continue to work repairing lines and removing fallen trees.
