Sewickley, Leetsdale Recognized as 2013 'Banner' Communities

Allegheny League of Municipalities, County Executive Rich Fitzgerald designate 21 municipalities as 2013 Banner Communities.

Sewickley and Leetsdale boroughs and Ohio Township are being recognized as three of nearly two dozen "banner communities" throughout Western Pennsylvania.

The Allegheny League of Municipalities and Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald recently announced 21 communities that received the special designation.

Leetsdale Mayor Pete Poninsky, chairman of ALOM, said the communities chosen have a significant amount of intergovernmental cooperation efforts in place, as well as community activities, and mentoring and educational programs taking place.

Obtaining the "Banner Community" status indicates that a community uses best practices in all aspects of operations and governs in an inclusive, collaborative manner, according to a news release.

Fitzgerald said, "these 21 municipalities really have set a standard of how local government should function, and should be commended for the work that they do for their residents.”
