Sewickley Real Estate Appeals Still Pending

Sewickley is still awaiting the results of 101 pending Allegheny County real estate assessment appeals.

Sewickley Manager Kevin Flannery told council Tuesday the borough's total assessed valuation, which was $472.7 million in 2012, is now down to $441.26 million as of July 3. All told, he said it represents a reduction of about $31.45 million.

Flannery said 48 refunds are due to residents, amounting to $30,023.39. He said checks will be mailed on Tuesday.

The funds will come from revenues the borough deposited into an escrow account. Sewickley petitioned the court last year and was approved to have the account in order to provide potential refunds.

Flannery said he is concerned that 101 outstanding real estate assessment appeals in July is still a lot to be processed. A couple are large residential properties valued well over $1 million, he said.
