Traffic Alert: PennDOT Crews Planning Another Busy Summer Weekend

Work will restrict traffic for Sewickley residents heading downtown or points east, west or south.

If you are out and about this weekend, you’ll want to know where PennDOT crews will be working. Work will restrict traffic for residents heading downtown, or using the Parkway East, West, Interstate 79 or Route 28.

Parkway East
Squirrel Hill Tunnel Rehabilitation

Traffic in the inbound Squirrel Hill Tunnel on the Parkway East will be restricted to a single lane from 10 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday for tunnel rehabilitation work.

Roadway improvements
Work to improve the inbound Parkway East between Grant Street and the Stanwix Street on-ramp – the area known as the “bathtub” along the Mon Wharf  - will continue from 9 p.m. Friday through approximately Noon on Saturday. The “bathtub” area and the ramp from Grant Street to outbound Parkway East will be closed. Crews will be performing repairs in the tunnel that carries Grant Street over the parkway and sawing and sealing pavement joints.

Guide rail repairs
Brief lane closures and restrictions will occur from 7 a.m. to Noon Saturday in both directions of the Parkway East between the Edgewood/Swissvale and Monroeville interchanges for guide rail repairs.

Fort Duquesne/Fort Pitt Portal Bridge
Ramp improvements

Work to improve the ramp - also known as the Portal Bridge - that connects the inbound Fort Pitt Bridge to the outbound Fort Duquesne Bridge will occur from 10 p.m. on Friday through approximately 5 a.m. on Monday. Traffic will be detoured through the West End.

Route 28
Traffic on inbound Route 28 will be reduced to a single lane from 8 p.m. Friday to approximately 6 p.m. Saturday between the former Millvale Industrial Park and the East Ohio Street exit. The right lane will be closed. Crews will continue installing caissons for retaining wall construction. 

I-79
Guide rail repairs
Brief lane closures and restrictions will occur from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday in both directions on I-79 between the Bridgeville and the Parkway West/Pittsburgh interchanges, and between the Parkway North and Butler County for guide rail repairs.

Crack sealing

This work will take place on Red Gate Road between River Road and Merriman Road is part of the Allegheny County June 25-29 maintenance schedule. These activities are weather permitting and lane closures and restrictions should be expected in the work area.

Franklin Park
Paving

Expect lane closures next week from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday on Reis Run Road in Franklin Park. PennDOT will be paving Reis Run from Arndt Road to Rochester Road.
