Sewickley Schools Operating on Two-Hour Delay Tuesday

Accumulations of 5 to 8 inches of snow is expected by tomorrow.

Sewickley Academy, St. James School, and all Quaker Valley schools are operating on a two-hour delay Tuesday due to the winter storm.

Kindergarten round-up appointments are not being delayed, said Marth Smith, district spokeswoman.  Smith said appointments are scheduled to begin on time -- starting at 8 a.m.    

A winter storm warning is in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday and motorists are warned to stay off the snowy, icy roads, according to the National Weather Service.

An accumulation of 5 to 8 inches of snow is expected, with the heaviest snowfall occurring before midnight, the weather service said in a 7 p.m. statement.

"A winter storm warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring," the weather service reported. "Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency."

Snow, sleet and freezing rain moved into the area as temperatures dropped this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
