Winter Weather Update: Is More Snow on the Way for New Year's Eve?

How should you dress for New Year's Eve? If you're planning to be outdoors that night, better bundle up and remember your boots. Same goes for New Year's Day.

Making plans for a New Year's celebration? Better dress for snow, especially if you plan to be outdoors after 7 p.m. on New Year's Eve or through the morning on New Year's Day.

There's a chance folks around Western Pennsylvania will see snow fall before then, but the accumulation will be less than 2 inches through the day Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Moon Township.

Come Monday night, though, the weather service predicts we'll be likely to see more snow start to fall after 7 p.m.—around the time many of us will be heading out for First Night Downtown, fancy revelry elsewhere or a neighborhood bash.

Here is the latest forecast from the weather service:

  • Saturday night: Snow likely, mainly between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 24. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.
  • Sunday: A chance of snow, mainly before 11 am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 29. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New snow accumulation of less than a half-inch possible.
  • Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19.
  • Monday: A chance of snow, mainly after 3 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 35. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.
  • New Year's Eve: Snow likely, mainly after 7 p.m. Cloudy, with a low around 28. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.
  • New Year's Day: Snow likely, mainly before noon. Cloudy, with a high near 32. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.
