'Reclaiming Landscapes': A photographic exhibition by artist Christopher Sprowls

International Images, ltd., Sewickley’s premier art gallery, invites the Pittsburgh community to the anticipated exhibition, “Reclaiming Landscapes” by our First Annual Student Show winner Christopher Sprowls. The show will take place at International Images, Friday, October 18th, 2013 from 6:00pm-9:00pm.

‘Reclaiming Landscapes’ is a new and invigorating series provided by the mind and eye of emerging photographer Christoper Sprowls. In the past, Christopher’s work was based on the idea of nature being a sacred place, that humans have a deep connection with nature and the world around them. In ‘Reclaiming Landscapes’, Christopher builds from his previous views to reach further into the human condition. He hopes to identify memories and childhood curiosity through urban and natural landscapes in which he finds his own solace. In his journey to reveal the true nature of his series, Christopher strives to awaken the adolescent ideas so long forgotten by the adults of the 21st century. It is this one single notion that presents the underlying idea that we, as adults, are a product of our upbringing; that the surroundings presented as children are the overall adaptation of how we present ourselves as adults. Christopher explains, “I have found resolution in the blue skies and the clouds that fill the negative space around them- I have learned that this world is much bigger than me, and that I am engulfed by so many feelings when I recognize these instances that sometimes it can be overwhelming.” He knows that the discoveries we make as children have the power to shape the way we think and translate certain circumstances in later years. With this concept and belief, Christopher attempts to draw his viewers back to the ideals of their youth; to use imagery in such a way as to help rediscover the essence of the human soul.
