The Civil War in Pennsylvania: A Photographic History

Sewickley Valley Historical Society Program

A Presentation by Michael G. Kraus and Kenneth C. Turner

Two of the authors of the new book The Civil War in Pennsylvania: A Photographic History, published by the Senator John Heinz History Center as a project of "Pennsylvania's Civil War 150," will deliver a PowerPoint presentation of highlights from the book, including images relating to the Sewickley area.  The volume is a broad-reaching compilation of images and topics, ranging from Pennsylvania's military hospitals to its civic and military leaders, women, race relations, the pacifist movement, the state's industrial might, railroads and transportation routes, soldiers and battles (including a focus on the Gettysburg Campaign), and post-war veterans' organizations.

Michael Kraus is Curator of Collections at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial and Museum in Pittsburgh.  Kenneth Turner, a writer and researcher, has amassed one of the largest privately held collections of images and memorabilia related to the Civil War in Pennsylvania.

Refreshments will be served following the presentation.
