'In Good Taste Party' Features Award-Winning Opera Singer

The party will benefit Samaritan Counseling Center in Glen Osborne.

Pittsburgh’s own award-winning opera singer and midday host on WQED FM is hosting an "In Good Taste" party to benefit a local non-profit.

The event is called Una Notte Sotte le Stelle, which means “A Night Under the Stars,” and benefits the Samaritan Counseling Center.

Anna Singer, who also sings in the choir at the Presbyterian Church, Sewickley, is hosting the event.

The party begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9 in Singer's home atop Mt. Washington.

Beth Healy, director of development and marketing at Samaritan, said "In Good Taste" parties typically feature gourmet food and drinks, and sometimes music, a bridge game or a fox hunt, depending on the event.

"Essentially, parties that are unique," she said, "because they are more than just a party."

Singer and her husband, attorney and trumpeter, Don Kortlandt, will treat 100 guests to fine music—live choir and jazz piano—delectable refreshments, and the opportunity to meet dozens of interesting people.

Built in the 1920s, the couple’s magnificently remodeled home will dazzle with its stunning view of the city.

From the ground level and pool to the dramatic rooftop deck, the home will inspire all who enter.

Cost is $75 per person and includes assorted appetizers and desserts, wine and beer.

"It’s a very fun, exciting and unique way to spend a Friday evening, meet new and interesting people and tour this exquisite home with the best skyline view of Pittsburgh," she said.

The Una Notte Sotte le Stelle event is one of 10 "In Good Taste" parties being hosted for Samaritan. Most will be held in Sewickley or in nearby communities.

Proceeds benefit Samaritan's Client Aid Fund, which provides fee subsidies to hurting people in need.  Samaritan operates 10 offices in Allegheny, Beaver and Butler counties. Out of the 2,000 people served annually, up to one-third lack the ability to pay for counseling services.

The Client Aid Fund exists to help those disadvantaged people who otherwise, would have no place to turn. Since its founding in 1982, Samaritan has never turned anyone away and has never sacrificed quality of care for anyone using Client Aid money.

There are still open slots for the Una Notte Sotte le Stelle party and all are welcome. Register to ensure a reservation. Bring your spouse, significant other, or an entire group of friends. Plenty of parking is available on the street, the lots on Shiloh and Virginia, or guests can opt to park at Station Square and ride the incline.
