Since this is my first official blog I thought I would start at the beginning. Where did your child receive his/her initial diagnosis? How long did you have to wait for an appointment? Do you feel the diagnosis was accurate and after the diagnosis were you given resources on what to do next?
My son received his diagnosis of Autism at the age of 20 months at the Child Development Unit. It is part of UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. They specialize in diagnosing and treating developmental disorders and behavior concerns.
It has been seven years since he has been diagnosed, but I don't think we had to wait very long for an appointment. Maybe two or three weeks.

We were there about three hours and they did several assessments on him and asked me a lot of questions.
He received the diagnosis from the Nurse Practitioner. I was very pleased with her. She was kind and very knowledgeable. When we were done they gave me a packet of information about ABOARD -- Advisory Board on Autism and Related Disorders.
