Special Needs Kids
This post explains what services I provide and also asks for reader input on what they would like to see in future posts.
First, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am a registered nurse. I graduated in 1995 from Carlow College with a bachelors of science degree in nursing. For the last 15 years I have specialized in mental health nursing. I currently work for a local nonprofit organization that services children with emotional and mental health issues. I am also a substitute nurse for my local school district.
As for my personal life, I have been married for 12 years, and we have two very active young boys. The 10-year-old is diagnosed with ADHD, and the 8-year-old has low-functioning autism. Life with them is quite a journey. Despite working in the mental health field, I still have had to navigate through the "system" trying to find available services in my area.
Which leads to the purpose of this blog. This blog is to provide a service to those living with special-needs children. As we know, nearby Beaver County, where I live, does not have much to offer in terms of services for kids.
Many things I found out on my own or by word of mouth. Professionals were not always willing to share information. In fact, many services I found out about they didn't even know existed.
This blog is to provide resources to those in the local area. Resources may include local doctor/dentists, therapies, medication, and services for our kids. Please post if you have any topics in mind you would like to see covered.
Disclaimer: Any information provided on medication and/or therapies is for discussion purposes only. This does not replace speaking with your medical doctor/health care provider for advice.
