Byron Ashton "Zorch" Harriger

He was a devoted member of Doric Lodge #630 F & AM and the Cochran Hose Company of Sewickley.

Byron Ashton “Zorch” Harriger, age 78, a life-long resident of Sewickley, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Villa St. Joseph.

He was born in Sewickley on December 15, 1934 to the late Elizabeth (Mateer) and Byron A. Harriger.

Growing up in Sewickley, both he and his wife attended school and church together. He was married to his childhood sweetheart on June 14, 1957, Virginia (Neely) Harriger; also loving father of Byron A. Harriger III (Cindy) of Sewickley; cherished brother of Charles Harriger of Lower Burrell; also many loving in-laws, nieces and nephews. 

A 1953 graduate of Sewickley High School, he went on to obtain his BS and Master’s in Education from the University of Pittsburgh. For 35 years, he was a sixth-grade teacher at Leetsdale, Sewickley and Osborne Elementary Schools.

He was a devoted member of Doric Lodge #630 F & AM, the Cochran Hose Company of Sewickley, Sewickley United Methodist Church, B.P.O.E., Aliquippa and University of Pittsburgh Marching Band as well as an active alumnus.

Visitation Saturday 6-8 and Sunday 1-4, 6-8 ( Fireman’s service at 7 PM) followed by Doric Lodge # 670 F&AM at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Copeland’s Sewickley, 702 Beaver St.

Prayer at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, June 3, 2013 followed by funeral service at Sewickley United Methodist Church at 10 a.m.  Rev. Russell Shuluga will officiate. Burial will follow in Sewickley Cemetery.
