Dr. Robert C. Sabatelle

Visitation is 1-4 and 6-8 Monday and Tuesday at Copeland's Sewickley, 702 Beaver St. where prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. James Church.

Dr. Robert C. Sabatelle, age 72, a Sewickley resident since 1972, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, January 13, 2012.

He was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 23, 1939, son of the late Dr. Charles and Mary (Pinto) Sabatelle.

Beloved husband for 50 years to AnnMarie (Dellano); loving father of Maryann Singley (James) of Latrobe, Dr. Robert Sabatelle, Jr. (Laurie) of Norwich, VT, Lisa Walley (fiancée Steven Antuono) of Ellwood City, Stefanie Horton (Tony) of Rochester, NY and Lynda Sassic (Jeff) of Point Breeze; proud grandfather of Marissa, Joshua & Alex Singley, Robert Charles III, Courtney, & Mary Sabatelle, Erika & Austin Walley, Jacob & Jonathan Sassic, Travis Horton; cherished brother of Janet Maresca (Roland) of Winter Springs, FL and Charles Sabatelle of Brooklyn, NY.

Dr. Sabatelle graduated as valedictorian in 1961 from NY University with his undergraduate degree, graduated from New York Medical University June 1965, served 1 year internship at King's County Medical Hospital in Brooklyn, NY; served his 4 year residency at Flower Fifth Ave. Hospital graduating as obstetrician/gynecologist.

He practiced at from 1972 until his retirement in 1999, delivering over 5,000 babies. From 1970 to 1972, he served in the U.S. Army as a major in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was involved as a coach manager, President of QVRA, was the Football MD for Quigley High School, and a member of and Montour Heights Country Club.

He was ordained as deacon in the Catholic Church on June 26, 1999, rooted at with main responsibilities of visiting the sick; he also performed deacon duties at St. Margaret Mary Church in Moon Township.

He was a member of St. James Church and was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid golfer. His mission work with Helping Hands Medical Missionary based out of Texas happened after his retirement where he went on 3 trips every year from 1999 until he was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2005. His medical mission work helped others in St. Lucia, Mexico, Philippines, Brazil and Honduras.

He was named “Man of the Year” in 2005 by the Rotary Club of Sewickley. He was honored by St. Michael's High School in 2008 for his true Christian beliefs and service to the church.

Visitation Monday and Tuesday 1-4 and 6-8 at Copeland's Sewickley, 702 Beaver St. where prayer service will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 Am followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. James Church. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery with full military honors.

Family suggests donations in his name to the American Leukemia Society.
