Edwin Alden Humeston III

Edwin  “Ed” Alden Humeston III, 77 of Ross Township, PA, died Thursday, June 6, 2013. 

He was born to the late Grace Humeston (nee Kingle) and Edwin Alden Humeston II in Pittsburgh, PA on October 22, 1935.  Ed graduated from Washington Irving High School in Clarksburg, WV and attended Fishburne Military Academy in Waynesboro, VA where he excelled in all sports.

He was the recipient of a football scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh where he played for four years including the 1955 Sugar Bowl and the 1956 Gator Bowl games.

Ed graduated from Pitt with a degree in Business Administration before serving his country in the United States Army.  He trained as a paratrooper and was stationed as an Engineer in Germany from 1959 thru 1961, rising to the rank of First Lieutenant. 

Ed was an Executive Recruiter for Mid Atlantic Capital in Pittsburgh, where he was admired by his co-workers until the days leading up to his death.

He was a Board Member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at the University of Pittsburgh for thirty-five years.  He was also a chapter advisor and past president.

Additionally, Ed was active in Pitt football Alumni activities.

Ed was known for his adventurous spirit, having skied, snorkeled, scuba and sky dived both nationally and internationally.  He was also an avid hunter, golfer, fisherman and yachtsman.

Most important to Ed, however was his fiancé Roseann Castelli and his family; daughter, Susan Coyle, son-in-law, Joe Coyle, granddaughter, Ava Tessa-Estelle Coyle and grandson, Joseph A. Coyle III. 

He is also survived by his sister, Margie Hernandez (nee Humeston) and her husband Feaney Hernandez and their two daughters, Martha Hernandez and Margaret Hernandez. 

Ed was preceded in death by his eldest daughter Jennifer Alden Humeston who passed Aug. 9, 2012.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in Edwin Alden Humeston III’s name to Good Samaritan Hospice, 146 Neely School Road, Wexford, PA 15090.

A viewing will be held at Copeland’s Funeral Home at 702 Beaver Street, Sewickley, Pa 15143.  On Tuesday, June 11th from 2:00-3:30 pm with a service immediately following.

When asked what he wanted etched on his gravestone, Ed thought for a moment, smiled and said, “it’s been a helluva ride.”
