Giovanni (John) Maruca

Maruca was a retired track foreman for A & S Railroad where he was president of the Transportation Workers Union for many years.

Giovanni (John) Maruca, age 87, a Sewickley resident most of his life, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012 at Hospice by the Sea, Hollywood, FL.

He was born in Falerna, Italy on June 17, 1925 to the late Pietro and Rosanna Maruca. Beloved husband of 66 years of Rose (Trunzo) Maruca; loving father of Rosanna Maruca Marek (Jerry) of Sewickley, Peter Maruca (Cathy) of Ambridge and the late baby son Johnny ; cherished grandfather of Jeremiah Marek (Cheran), Jared Marek (Leigh), Michael Marek (Bethany) and Brandon Maruca; brother of Vincenza Renne (Orlando) of Moon Township, Rosario and Mario Maruca both of France and the late Mike Maruca of Leetsdale.

John was a retired track foreman for A & S Railroad where he was president of the Transportation Workers Union for many years. He served in the Italian Army during WWII. He and Rose, after they married, made their home in the United States.

John will be remembered as a dedicated family man, a wonderful person who helped many people, hard worker and a respected landlord. He was a life long member of the .

Visitation is 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13 and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14 at , 702 Beaver St. where prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15 followed by 10 a.m. Mass at . Rev. Thomas J. Burke, celebrant. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery.
