Mary Annette (McFarland) Liggett

Visitation noon-1 p.m. Wednesday in the Robinson Room at the Presbyterian Church of Sewickley, 414 Grant Street, Sewickley. There will be a service at 1 p.m. in the sanctuary.

Mary Annette (McFarland) Liggett, age 94, died Friday evening March 23, 2012, surrounded by her family, at Masonic Village, Sewickley, PA.

She was born December 20, 1917, to the late Arthur Lamont and Grace Hadley Allen McFarland. She grew up in St. Clairsville, OH; graduated from St. Clairsville High School and Ohio Wesleyan University (1939) with majors in English and speech; and taught school in Zanesville, OH, until she married the love of her life, Dr. John Samuel Liggett, on August 21, 1941.

John Liggett preceded her in death on April 5, 2003, after 61 years of marriage. She and John Liggett moved to Sewickley in 1948, and she was very active in community and family affairs.

She and her husband were members of the  and the  and country clubs. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader and a Cub Scout Den mother. She belonged to the , the , the Sewickley Garden and Women's Clubs, the amongst others and had recipes in the first .

Mary Annette loved to play golf and tennis, ski, socialize, do crossword puzzles and travel. She was an organizer, a conscientious hostess and had a zest for life which was tempered by her desire to “build character” in her children.

She was a loving wife and mother of three children. She is survived by her children, Anne (Liggett) Rinzler and her husband, Curry, of Woodstock, NY; Dr. Jack Liggett and his wife, Christel, of Lima, OH; and Kit Liggett and her husband, Terry Peard, of Harrisburg, PA. She was proud grandmother of Max, Sean and wife Hiro and Eli Rinzler; Kelly Liggett and husband Peter Kunkel; and Dana and Christian Jerman. She also is survived by great grandson Andrew Rinzler; her dear friend, Betsy Allyn; and many others too numerous to mention.

Besides husband John, her brother Mac and great grandson Oliver Rinzler preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Robinson Room at the Presbyterian Church of Sewickley, 414 Grant Street. There will be a service at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the sanctuary with the Rev. Tracey Henry officiating. She will be interred at Sewickley Cemetery.
